What are you Passionate about?

Today I was asked, “What are you Passionate about?”

Well this sent me into a bit of a tailspin….what is passionate? What does that word mean? You hear it used a lot but what does it mean?

–adjective
1. having, compelled by, or ruled by intense emotion or strong feeling; fervid: a passionate advocate of socialism.
2. easily aroused to or influenced by sexual desire; ardently sensual.
3. expressing, showing, or marked by intense or strong feeling; emotional: passionate language.
4. intense or vehement, as emotions or feelings: passionate grief.
5. easily moved to anger; quick-tempered; irascible.

Ok that led to look up a few other words, which was fun and entertaining….such as irascible:
–adjective
1. easily provoked to anger; very irritable: an irascible old man.
2. characterized or produced by anger: an irascible response.

Oh a grouchygeezer…go figure.

Anyway I felt I couldn’t really answer the question fully without full understanding of “passionate”. So here are my answers with a fresh understanding of “passionate”

1)    The symmetry of life and the world around us
2)    Protecting/Advocating for those who can not
3)    Sunsets on a deserted beach or mountain side
4)    Acknowledging the little milestones on the road to a greater destination
5)    Good Cup of Coffee

Geting Older

Today I read that the actor who played “Robbie the Robot” on “Lost in Space” (Robert May) died……he was 69 yrs old

Never guessed there was a person inside the suit…or that the voice was that of someone else..”May didn’t provide the robot’s distinctive voice (that was done by announcer Dick Tufeld)”.

I loved that show….and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea…and Time Tunnel….and Land of the Giants….and of course Gentle Ben and Flipper

All of this of course was long before MTV…South Park….Reailty TV….

Guess hearing about his death…..made me think of happier times….when news took at least one day to reach you, if it happen on the other side of the world…. Reminds me of a song lyric by Buddy Miller:

Sunsets/Sunrises

As I was doing my annual yearly backup of data, to move off to long term storage. I could not help but notice how many pictures I have of sunsets and sunrises….toss in bunch of waterfalls and you have a real theme….wonder what the psych behind all that is??? My version of “Do not go gentle into that good night” ……….

Machu Picchu

Today I am committing to hiking Machu Picchu ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machu_Picchu ) this June!!! My mother and sister in Chicago want to go too….but I do not believe they are willing ( and possibly able ) to do the 4 day hike. So I need to figure out how to be able to do the 4 day hike and have them meet me at Machu Picchu…..6 months and 16 dyas from now

Being Single and Dating

I am currently single and dating……well sort of….. being the grouchygeezer I am and a geek….I’m doing on line dating….which seems to bring it’s own pro’s and con’s. But overall I am starting to realize the there may in deed be a reason I’m single and been single most of my life. I like it? Ohhhhhh being single has it drawbacks…eating alone seems to be one of the biggest for me. In our society meals tend to be times that people come together share day’s events, current topics effecting our lives and in general connect. I do feel the most alone when I’m fixing dinner and preparing to eat alone……again. I’ve loved and lost like most people and do not fear being “alone”, in fact I seem to be getting better at it. There was a time I feared being alone….feared that I would die alone and forgotten…..which may still happen…but I no longer have fear of this…hard to put into words…and since most likely this blog is more a journal than a traditional blog…most will go huh?? And move on

Dating…… I find it hard….not that I’m unable to open up and share of myself…it almost borders on “unwilling”…..like whats the use…. maybe my destiny is to be alone??

The Committee

At some point I mentioned that I have a committee carrying on discussions in my head. I believe we all have a committee…and that I’m not really different than the average geezer. I’m just willing to share mine .

I have a small committee and over the years ( and yes thanks to lots of Therapy) I’ve gotten to know mine pretty well. they all have names, and as far as I know there are 3 standing members.

(names changed to protect the innocent)

RL: 17 years old. Sassy and quick to use fowl lanuague. Looks for trouble and willing to start trouble.

S: Spiritual Sage, Able to reflect on RL’s mistakes, actions and apologize and make amends.

GG: Still coming into his own . Years of having to listen to these two has made him a little …well grouchy

Unfortunately RL gets access to the Bank acccounts and manages to keep S and GG in new toys.

iPray Pro

Today, while trying to avoid cleaning my office…I was looking for new interesting Applications for my latest toy…an iPhone. I happen to stumble across an Application called “iPray Pro”. My first thought was “Pro?”….is there a Novice version? Does …..lets just say “Creator” listen to the “pro prayers” 1st? Is there level of skills involved in praying? How do you move from Novice to Pro? Is there an “iSin” application or as a good friend put it “i7DeadlySins” I have lots of questions.

So I checked out the “developers web site http://www.guidedways.com/mobile/ipray/ . Now let me share I am an equal opportunity grouchygeezer….. had no idea that this was an application, it appears to be targeted at the Muslim faith….you hate-mongers don’t get excited, I am not in your crowd. After further review it seems to be a tool to instruct you which way to face at the correct time. Not knowing much about the faith, it sounds useful. But the name iPray Pro…..hmmmm… does beg for questions on face value.

So who says an old grouchygeezer can’t learn to not judge a book by it’s cover

Recently I watched a Video-Podcast On HID Human Input Devices…… I thought I was a HID…. I have input

The feature device was something right out of Borg Lore…you wore it over your head and it somehow was able to read you neuro transmitters……whatever….. I ever put one of these things on it would blow up… The “Committie” in my head would confuse it so fast….sizzle. When did good old “Good Morning” stop being HID??

So who or what is a Grouchy Geezer?

Grouchy:
	1. Complainer: A habitually bad-tempered or complaining person. 2. Complaint: An instance of or cause for complaining. 3. Bad mood: A mood characterized by complaining or sulking.

Geezer:
In the U.K.: A guy, a bloke, a person in general. The British equivalent of the American slang word “dude”.
In the U.S.: An old man, particularly one who is either cranky or eccentric.

Well that describes me Not that I’m really that “Old” or “Grouchy”. It’s just I’ve lived long enough, and varied enough experiences to have an opinion and a willingness to share those thoughts. So I going to say I fall more in the “eccentric” category of the definition.

I am a “Boomer” and the world around me today worries me…. As Buddy Miller said in his song “Worry too Much” >>… “it’s wondering if the good I know will last to be seen by the eyes of the little ones”.

There is also humor in being a “GrouchyGeezer”…. so as these post progress I hope they will be more of pearls of humor than rants…or maybe a combination of both ……..
